Island Biševo

Biševo is an island in the Adriatic Sea not far from Vis, best known for its Blue Cave. The surface of the island is 6 km2, and it is located 5 km southwest of the small town of Komiža, with which it is connected throughout the year by a boat line. About 15 residents lice there, although it is more visited in the summer. The Blue Cave, Bear's Cave, delicious wine and sandy beaches are the main features of the island and the reasons for the high number of visitors in the summer.

The Blue Cave is one of the most famous natural monuments of the Adriatic. It is 10-12 meters wide and 24 meters long. It was discovered by Baron Eugen von Ransonet in 1884. the cave has been open to public ever since. The best time to visit the cave is between 10 am and 2 pm, because during calm seas, the sun's rays penetrate through the underwater opening into the cave, reflecting off the white bottom, giving the cave a blue color. It is visited annually by over 50,000 visitors.

The Bear's cave is located in Trešjavac cove, on the southern part of the island, and is one of the longest sea caves on the Adriatic. It got its name from the Mediterranean bear seal, the rarest type of seal, which lived there. The „sea man“ as the local fishermen called it, is rarely seen on the Adriatic today. By swimming through the narrow channel of the cave, you can reach a pebble beach called Malo žalo.
